maybe i overreact. maybe.
yesterday was just another day in the life of the tingles. i pick up addison. she is clingy. miss morgan hands her to me. we stop at big lots on our way home. she is still clingy - won't ride in the cart. we finally get home where i carry her to the porch and plop her down. just like every other day....until she won't walk or crawl. i try to pick her up and make her stand but her left leg won't go straight and she won't stand on it. at all. i panic.
for those that don't know, addison was born with hip dysplasia. we go to her orthopedic at every milestone and will continue to go until she is well into elementary school. we haven't gone to her "walking" appointment so i had no idea if her hips are continuing to grow correctly. mom had thought one of her legs was not a swift as the other, but then we didn't know if that was just her legs trying to figure this walking thing out. i digress...
so i am panicking, right? yes. i run to my neighbors house to get her opinion. why? because i overreact and people who overreact need someone to confirm their craziness, right? yes. cara thought the same thing...something is really wrong with addison. i immediately put her in the car, run in and grab stuff (i don't know what kind of stuff, i just grabbed anything because that is what you do when you overreact, you come prepared for surgery or the plague), crank the car and put on my flashers for my 1 mile drive down to urgent care. by this time, and i am not kidding, addison is screaming bloody murder. the nurses send me back immediately. we do the whole triage thing and finally get a room. addison is now uncontrollably crying. the nurse practitioner comes in and takes one look at her and immediately orders x-rays and what had to be 4 tablespoons of motrin. in the meantime, my phone is dying, carrie is trying to get a hold of terry, addison is still crying in agony while waiting 20 minutes for a 2 minute x-ray, and i am pulling all my "stuff" out in hopes of finding 1 thing, just 1 thing that will make addison calm down.
raisins. raisins saved the day. she didn't want to eat the raisins. just hold the raisins. and she did. all the way to x-ray, all during x-ray, and all the way back. all along the way passing out raisins to the doctors, to the nurses and to me. she begins to smile, she starts to be a little silly. and here i am thinking i am mother of the stinking year because i, i have raisins. then it hits me. she was given a quart of motrin 30 minutes ago. it isn't the raisins - little miss is drunk as a skunk.
so, by this point, my daughter is toasted, terry has been pulled off the football field and making his way to me (remember, overreacting mom has addison in surgery and a body cast for 3 months), and the doctor comes in to tell me the x-ray looks perfect. WHAT?!?!?!? she takes a look at her and moves her hip around and nothing. not a cry, not a whimper. heck, addison even stands up and walks across the room. i am mortified! just to be safe, we order one more round of x-rays, a strep test and check her ears all to find out she is fine and dandy. by now terry is with me and we are sitting there, me still not convinced she is ok, when all of the sudden my genius husband says "i bet her leg fell asleep".
silence.
then for the first time in 2 hours, i die laughing. we have no idea if that is what happened but it sure make sense. we grab our survival bags, pick up our loopy child, take all 40 x-rays and head home...without the flashers, without surgery and without a body cast.
