birmingham is my home but macon...macon, ga...middle georgia...it is my
home. you know?
apparently tonight on the cma's jamey jonhnson sang his song "macon"...and it made me smile.
yeah it is small. yeah most people i know live on the north side. yeah the many private schools and their stereotypes and rivalries seems to rule the town. and yeah, i didn't go back. but i still love that place.
elliott farms. good pickin' for some berries.
fpd. tattnall. stratford. mt desales. the mighty four private schools.
the
georgia state fair. in the good 'ole days every school got a day off called "fair day". nice.
we cannot forget
marc ballard. dear family friend spending his days trying to rival paula deen.
forsyth, bass, zebulon, ingelside, northside, riverside. roads i know by heart.
and craddock way. sweet craddock way. with house after house. my sister and i can still drive the neighborhood naming the families that made each house a home. we remember the big hill where we sledded during the huge snow storm...or where brooke busted her a-sugar-sugar on her bike. there was caroling during christmas and cookouts and candy for halloween. and i can still hear my mom say "if you don't straighten up, i'm gonna knock you down craddock way." haha. and i am not kidding y'all, everyone lived there. the smiths. the gays. the joyners. the walkers. the gudenraths. the dunwoodys. the kaplans. the crabtrees. the powells. the terrells. i could go on and on. but i won't.
sweet 'ole macon. good times. good song. if you like that twangy, sappy, country type.
