honeymoon contest
- Our honeymoon night began in Atlanta, GA at the Hilton by the airport. At the time we lived in Birmingham and were used to the central time zone…as were our clocks, watches and phones.
- New husband set his clock for 7:00 so that we would have plenty of time to pack and catch the shuttle to the airport for our 9:10 flight.
- New husband set the clock on CENTRAL time so when we woke up we realized it was 8:00 EASTERN. Yes, we had 1 hour to get dressed, pack and make it to the airport to check in for an international flight.
- New wife and new husband had every bell hop and shuttle driver there to help us make this impossible adventure a reality.
- Finally on the shuttle, new wife was in charge of driver’s licenses and tickets…new husband was in charge of bags.
- Upon arriving at the airport, new wife runs to the counter while the Jamaican Attendant informs us we had 5 minutes until the flight closed. Success!
- BUT, new wife cannot find her driver’s license. New husband calls the shuttle only to find out that new wife had indeed dropped the driver’s license on the shuttle.
- Jamaican Attendant informs the “happy” newlyweds the flight will now close in four minutes.
- Three minutes.
- Two minutes.
- One minute.
- No shuttle. No driver’s license. No flight to paradise.
- After weighing all the options to get this honeymoon back on track, new husband and new wife decide to drop an extra $1500 for tickets to get us to paradise. Now the newlyweds were “happily” in debt.
- The fun doesn’t stop there.
- After 3 flights, some rubber meat they call chicken, 17 bags of peanuts and a 30 passenger plane carrying 14 other “happy” newlywed couples in matching bride and groom wind suits, we finally arrive at paradise…
- …without our luggage.
- FYI, St. Lucians aren’t really concerned with Americans who lose their luggage, if you want it back within 48 hours you better call. Every hour on the hour. And just get used to hearing “No worries, no problem, man”.
Moral of the story: ALWAYS function by the time zone you are in…it could save you a lot of money and a lot of stress.
But after 5 years we still laugh our heads off at our “story” and hope to make it up with another honeymoon…this time stateside and on central time!
so there you go folks. maybe we will win. if not, i will settle for the lottery.

pandora - glory revealed
p.s. i have just spent about 2 hours listening and must warn you that some songs need to be passed. when i said this station was nice, i was not referring to the gaither homecoming bluegrass tribute...even though i am sure it is a very nice song.

weigh in tuesday
total weight loss: 3.5 lbs
pounds until goal: 56.5
there was a woman at church this weekend who spoke about a health problem that she has been suffering with for two years know. the short version is that when she eats, it hurts, physically hurts and she immediately feels full and stuffed - like, just-pigged-out-and-ate-the-whole-turkey-and-dressing-and-pumpkin-pie kind of stuffed.
as i sat there and listened to her story and watched her desire to be able to eat, her desire to gain weight, and her desire to live a normal life, i was reminded that we all have our own battles. i am on woman fighting the urge not to eat and two rows up this woman was fighting for the will to eat.
so, on to another week. if you are joining me along this road, welcome. dive on in. i love the company. and i promise to be here, every tuesday, with an update and hopefully some encouragement. happy tuesday!

only women
it was hearing these women, most of them whom i do not know, but it was hearing them that made me thankful for the friendships in my life. we all love our husbands but let's be honest, there is something so perfect about calling a good friend to recap a story, to shed a tear, or just to share a giggle. i know my terry doesn't giggle - but shannon does. my terry doesn't cry in compassion - but kelly does. but what my terry does do is encourage me in these friendships. he knows how important they are. how important women are in the lives of other women.
he knows that haley loves me even if my alarm clock goes off 100 times while i snooze. he knows that mandy is one of my oldest friends and i can remember her when her hair was down to her butt. he knows that ashley's boating accident took friendship to a whole new level as i was afraid to leave for side for weeks and months (so much so that i went to therapy with her). and that mere was the reason i laughed my way though high school. and that allison called me whi-whi - and still does to this day. and without carrie birmingham wouldn't have become my home. and if there was no carrie to make this place stick, there would be no lauren or robyn or cara or chelsey or steph...i could go on and on.
all this to say, thank you jason for making just the women sing. it made me thankful for the lovely ladies that make up this little world of mine.

we are back...
back to the weekend. the wedding was so nice. i have to say the toast of the night that just about had me falling out of the chair came from terry's cousin katie as she said- "holly, welcome to this half (with a huge hand gesture) of the room." ha! it was priceless and so, so true. we tingles, kracks, holbrooks, ect...took up one whole half of the room.
and as always, the tingles, kracks, holbrooks and rest of the wedding party did a fine, fine job of decorating the get-away car. no one would ever have to guess that that car was filled with some newlywed love.
but this morning, fresh off wedding festivities, as i was driving into work a car passes me. it had lots of decorations and tons of writing. i kind of smiled thinking some other family was also celebrating a sweet couple...until...i looked a little closer...and was appauled to see that the writing had nothing to do with newlyweds. no, this decoration had everything to do with newly divorced. i couldn't get up there fast enough to take a picture but i promise you, the owner of this car was 100% celebrating and 100% annoucing to all of I-59 that they were in fact divorced and proud of it.
how stinking sad. my heart was broken. when i entered marriage, there was no hint of divorce being an option. i would give everything i absolutely had to terry and our life - and if something went wrong i would do everything in my power to fix it. everything and anything. i think today and seeing that car, i am reminded to pray for every married couple i am proud to know. to pray for their day to day life. to pray for their home and their children. and pray that no matter what happens, they will fight for one another and in the end remember why they fell in love in the first place.
