i love this kid

i am sure most of you have seen this funny little commercial but i thought i would post it anyway. i forget how much i like this little man. so, for a good monday afternoon chuckle...

likes and dislikes

This weekend I had to breakdown and buy some shoes…some really practical, extremely un-fun, boring black shoes. It was emotional (I know this sounds silly, but I’m pregnant, everything is emotional). I kept adoring shoes like this:

But ended up with shoes like this:

So in honor of my un-fun shoes, here are a couple of lists about being pregnant…

Things I dislike about being pregnant:
Weight gain – my butt is as big as much as my belly…
Growing feet – I had big feet pre-baby, just imagine them now…
Back pains – at the end of the day I am done…
Un-fun shoes – thanks to growing feet and back pain…
Double chin – I am afraid I had one before baby but today I blame it on baby…
Midnight trips to the potty – 4 times last night…4 TIMES, PEOPLE!
Tears that come out of nowhere – poor Terry, he is hanging in there…
Wine, I miss wine. And beer, I miss beer, too…I can’t even eat wings right now, they seem lonely without the beer…
My wedding wing doesn’t fit!!! I hate that!!! I am going to buy a really big, gaudy, fake ring and sport it until June…
People you don’t know touching your stomach – can’t stand it…who are these people?

Things I love about being pregnant:
Addison’s little kicks – she reminds me she is around every hour or so…
Ultrasounds – who doesn’t love seeing their little lima bean?
Food – everyone expects you to eat a lot…and I do…a lot…
Little clothes and little shoes – I can’t stand it, they are so cute!
Daydreaming about her – what she looks like, what she will act like, ect…
Praying for her – It is sweet and priceless…
Talking to her – I love that she will know my voice above all others…
If there is anything wrong – blame it on the preggers…
Terry’s excitement – seeing him fall in love with her more and more everyday…
Grandparents – it is amazing how excited they get, too…I love it!
Creating life – it is by far the most incredible blessing I have experienced…

Have a great Monday!

morning commute

so my new years resolution ticks me off. every morning when i leave my house at 7:35 there is traffic...or a wreck...or just stupid drivers. it never fails. the result is not getting to work at 8 like i had intended...it is more like 8:15. but in spite of my stupid resolution, i tried again today to conquer the commute. i hear on the radio that traffic is backed up. ok, breathe, breathe. take advantage of the time..pray, laugh at rick and bubba, talk to addison. breathe. i keep a steady pace until the sign. the digital sign that makes me mad everyday. my good tax dollars put that thing up and never does it ever give me useful information. i digress. i have now hit the bumper to bumper traffic radio man so enthusiastically told me about just minutes ago. it is awful. but it gets worse. a couple cars ahead i notice a woman in a pt cruiser opening her door and pour out her coffee (well, what i thought was coffee). she is using her time wisely cleaning out her car, i think to myself. by now the cruiser and i are buddies on the road. she moves a little, then i move a little. she opens the door again. i look to see what she is throwing out this time and realize she is not throwing out anything she is throwing up...i mean some serious projectile. i look away. please, traffic, please move so i can get away from throw-up cruiser. no movement. for FIFTEEN minutes i have to watch this poor lady yack up her breakfast, lunch, and dinner from the past week. it is painful. awful. i am dying, seriously dying because i, too, am about to be a car-door puker. i feel for her, i really do, but for the sake of all us stuck in traffic, stop the puking!!!! finally, FINALLY, i escape.

monday morning revelation: forget the resolution, i am sleeping late tomorrow.

words

I was sent an email yesterday from a couple of friends that asked me to send back one word that describes them…one word? Are you kidding me? That is almost as bad as a personality test trying to fit someone in one category. I can’t do it. I can’t stand it. But I tried and I did it. I sent back my one word answers, all the while cringing because there is no way one word can describe a person…especially people I love. I love them for many words, not just one. The email then instructed me to send out the email and see what “one words” I got in return. Once again, I can’t do it. Maybe I just don’t have the courage to see what would be said. Or maybe I don’t want to see all these positive words because I know they are not all true…I am made up of good and bad words.

I thought about it for a while, and as hard as it would be, I would want to see what “bad” words people would say to describe me over the good ones. You see, it is those kinds of words that make me a better person. It is those kinds of words that have me running to the cross in repentance. Those are the words I need. I all too often get caught up in the good words that describe me that I forget the desperate need of a savior.

So, after a day of contemplating this email and getting way to deep about something that was intended for fun, I realized I like four words for myself…Sinner, Repenter, Forgiven, Saved. Those four words are my good and bad. But more importantly they encompass me - my past, my present, my future, and my eternity.

baby nike

Well, we did it! We conquered Babies-r-us…we registered! My friends Shannon and Rosey were in town and I was lucky to have them there to help us along this road we have never traveled. We followed Shan around and obeyed her instructions.

Shan: “You need some bottles. Terry, Scan these.”
Shan: “You need some nipples. Scan size 1, Terry. And size 2 and 3.”
Terry: “Why do we need all those sizes”
Shan: “You just do.”
Terry: “I heard we really needed a warmer for baby wipes.”
Shan: “Nope.”
Terry: “Ok.”

I have no idea what in the heck Terry scanned but we did hit the high points. I think we got a car seat and a stroller, bottles – we definitely did bottles, and pacifiers - we got some of those, a pack and play – it looks a little fancy but everyone says we need it, and lots of other stuff that scare me…seriously. We finally made our way to the fun part – CLOTHES!!! They are so cute! Some ruffles here and polka dots there…it was too much fun! For a few minutes we all stop to chat, making plans for later that night. I look to find Terry and guess where he is…at the SHOES. He has this little mischievous grin on his face and he is holding something in his hand. We all are wondering what it is that he has found – what has made this new daddy so excited? Slowly he turns around and shares with us his new favorite item…

Oh, Terry is a happy man...he might not be passing on the last name with our first born, but he is teaching her the love of a good shoe. So yes, we registered, and to Terry those two hours of bottles and strollers were worth ever minute for that one special scan - his baby girl's first pair of Nikes.

big days, big smiles and big excitment

Brynn just reached the first of many milestones in her life…it was her first day of school. Look at her, just look at her – she is about to “pee her pants” she is so excited. Brynn’s mom, Tyanna, described the memorable morning…

“She had her backpack on about 1 hour early and kept asking if it was time to leave yet. The teachers warmly welcomed her and she barely gave me a hug goodbye. I haven't been able to get much information out of her about what they did, but she said she is excited to go back on Thurs.”

Many of you have asked what Terry and I were like the day of our ultrasound. Well, let me tell you…we were just like Brynn. If backpacks were needed at the doctor, there would have been backpacks. If there was a mom to take pictures by the door, pictures would have been taken. If there was someone to say goodbye to, we would have barely hugged them…all with nothing but the new adventure in sight. Terry only got worse, far worse than Brynn I am afraid. He couldn’t stop smiling, or talking (surprise, surprise).

“Oh, I see it’s face” says overexcited-can’t-shut-up-dad.
“Yeah, that’s the abdomen” replies the sweet nurse.
He tries again, “And the leg. I see the leg!”
“Um yeah, that’s the arm.”

Hee hee…poor overexcited-can’t-shut-up-dad…he tried. I kept watching Terry though, falling in love with him over again at his passion for life, especially this particular life. As for me, I had done my Google research. I had looked at hundreds of ultrasound pictures showing me the difference between a girl and a boy. Before our nurse even said anything, I could already tell it was a girl. So I spent the small seconds waiting and watching Terry. Scary Moment, very SCARY…is my husband about to freak out? Is he going to be disappointed? Is he going to cry, pitch a fit, heaven forbid tell the nurse she is wrong?

Pause. “It’s a Girl!”

I wish you could have seen his face, my Terry’s face. It is one I will never forget. It was the face of a daddy looking at his little girl. Tears, smiles, even a signature Terry nervous laugh. And just like Brynn, we relished in our little secret of the days happenings…but only for a little while.

another one

It is a new year. Ok. So what. Please forgive my bitterness, I am just not a huge new years fan. I don’t really celebrate it like so many others and I really don’t make resolutions. I guess in the grand scheme of things I don’t see the point in waiting until this one particular day a year to proclaim to make myself better. My hope is that everyday I try to achieve the best for myself, my husband, my work, my family. I know I will fail at times and that some days will be better than others. But I feel that if I wait until January 1 to declare my hopes, dreams and goals for the year, well then, I am just selling myself short. Now, my Terry, he loves New Years Eve and Day– he loves the hype, the going out, the dressing up, the countdown, the noise, the fireworks, the kiss, the song that no one knows the words to, the resolutions and the football. So for him, we got dressed and went out, we laughed and enjoyed each other, we saw a few fireworks, we made some resolutions and we watched countless hours of football. And for me – well he let me go to bed at 11:30 and sleep the night away.

So what was my one measly resolution…get to work by 8 so I can leave at 5. Ask me what time I sat down at my desk this morning….go ahead, ask me…8:00!!!! Wahooo!!!! One day down and 300 something or other to go…

Happy New Year to all you New Years Resolutionaries!
